Countdown to Whitburn Band Virtual Festival

Thirty-seven brass bands from across Scotland are all set to perform next weekend at the Whitburn Band Virtual Festival.

The event, which will be presented by Professor Nicholas Childs, will all be broadcast for free on Whitburn Band’s YouTube channel.

Bands will compete in six sections of competition across three days, while Whitburn Band, Whitburn Heartlands and Whitburn Youth Band will also perform in a Gala Concert on the Sunday evening before the results.

The festival begins at 6pm on Friday, June 25 with the Fourth Section and Third Section contests.

This will be followed up at 6pm the following night, when the Second Section and First Section bands perform.

The festival will conclude on Sunday. From 4pm, the audience will be able to enjoy the Youth and Percussion Ensembles before the Championship Section contest. This will be followed by the Whitburn concert, before the results of all the sections.

The Virtual Festival would not have been possible without the support of Creative Scotland, Besson, Just Music, Band Supplies, the Scottish Brass Band Association, and of course the Scottish banding community.

Charlie Farren, Whitburn Band’s Chairman, said: “We are all looking forward to the Whitburn Band Virtual Festival, which will be a major showcase of talent from across the Scottish banding community and a celebration of music in these tough times.

“We hope the audience will enjoy watching and supporting all the bands, and are also looking forward to seeing Whitburn, Whitburn Heartlands and Whitburn Youth Band in concert.”
