Whitburn’s victory at the recent Scottish Brass Band Championships was a very special one for our solo trombone player Paul Kiernan.
Paul has now won the Scottish 20 times - thought to be a record in the history of Scottish brass banding.
Paul has won the championships across two spells with Whitburn and a successful period with the cooperation band.

He has also won the John Campbell medal for the Best Trombone player 12 times, with four coming at Whitburn. His first with the band was in 1990, with the latest in 2023. This is also a Scottish record.
Thank you to Gordon Simpson for the stats.
Congratulations PK, and here is to many more successes in the future!
