Two players join Whitburn

Whitburn Band is delighted to announce the signings of two new players.

Olivia Beckett and Emma Dunn have joined the band and will be performing at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain this weekend, which will be held at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Olivia has joined Whitburn's cornet section from Annan Town Band.

The 20-year-old began playing aged seven and was a member of Dumfries Town Band. She then moved to Annan, where her mum and dad also play, and was appointed Principal Cornet aged 14.

Since then, she has competed with Annan at the National Finals in Cheltenham and at the European Championships and was named Best Cornet player at the Borders Entertainment Contest last year.

She said: “I am really looking forward to continuing my journey with Whitburn Band.”

Meanwhile, Emma has joined Whitburn’s percussion section.

The 18-year-old is a second year BEd Music student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow.

She had a spell with Johnstone Band and is a regular performer with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and in the musical theatre scene.

She said: “I am delighted to be joining Whitburn and I am excited for what is to come.”
